The ASRock B550M Steel Legend is a Micro ATX motherboard built on the AMD B550 chipset, designed for AMD AM4 socket processors including 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen (Matisse) CPUs and compatible Ryzen APUs. Measuring 9.6 x 9.6 inches (24.4 x 24.4 cm), it fits standard Micro ATX cases while delivering a feature set often associated with larger form factors. At the heart of its power delivery is a 10-phase digital power design using 50A Dr.MOS integrated power stages, paired with premium 60A power chokes and Nichicon 12K Black capacitors sourced from Japan. The Hi-Density Power Connector design incorporates both an 8-pin and a 4-pin 12V connector alongside the standard 24-pin ATX connector. The board's 2oz copper PCB inner layers support stable signal integrity and improved thermal performance during sustained loads. For memory, the board provides four DDR4 DIMM slots in dual-channel configuration, supporting up to 128GB. With a Ryzen Matisse CPU installed, memory can be clocked up to DDR4 4533 (OC); with compatible APUs the ceiling rises to DDR4 4733 (OC). XMP profiles are also supported. Storage connectivity is generous: six SATA3 6.0 Gb/s ports support RAID 0, 1, and 10, while a Hyper M.2 slot (M2_1) runs at PCIe Gen4 x4 (up to 64 Gb/s) with Matisse CPUs, and a second M.2 slot (M2_2) supports PCIe Gen3 x2 or SATA3. Note that M2_2 and SATA3 ports 5–6 share lanes; enabling one disables the other. Both M.2 slots are covered by ASRock Full Coverage M.2 heatsinks. Expansion slots include a reinforced PCIe 4.0 x16 primary slot (Gen4 x16 with Matisse, Gen3 x16 with APUs), a second PCIe x16 mechanical slot running at Gen3 x4, and one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. AMD CrossFireX multi-GPU configurations are supported. A Key-E M.2 slot accommodates an optional 802.11ac Wi-Fi module (type 2230). Networking is handled by a Dragon RTL8125BG controller delivering 2.5 Gigabit LAN (10/100/1000/2500 Mb/s) with ESD and Lightning protection, Wake- LAN, and Energy Efficient Ethernet 802.3az support. Audio is powered by the Realtek ALC1200 codec delivering 7.1-channel HD audio with Content Protection, Nahimic Audio processing, Blu-ray audio support, PCB isolate shielding, dedicated left/right channel PCB layers, and gold-plated audio jacks. The rear I/O panel includes one HDMI 2.1 port (4K @ 60Hz), one DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 5K @ 120Hz), one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A (10 Gb/s), one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C (10 Gb/s), four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one optical S/PDIF output, one PS/2 port, the 2.5G RJ-45 LAN port, a Clear CMOS button, and two antenna mounting points for optional Wi-Fi modules. RGB lighting is managed via ASRock Polychrome SYNC, with two RGB LED headers (12V, up to 36W) and two Addressable LED headers (5V, up to 15W) onboard.
