Overview
The ADATA Legend 850 512GB is an M.2 2280 internal solid state drive built on the PCIe Gen4 x4 interface and conforming to the NVMe 1.4 standard. Designed for creators, gamers, and power users who demand consistently fast storage, it represents a significant leap over earlier interface generations without requiring any special adapter or modification to compatible systems. At its core, the Legend 850 is engineered for throughput. Sequential read speeds reach up to 5,000 MB/s and sequential write speeds reach up to 2,700 MB/s. For workloads that generate many small file operations, the drive delivers 4K random read performance of up to 380,000 IOPS and 4K random write performance of up to 530,000 IOPS. These figures make it well suited to tasks such as large video file transfers, 3D asset loading, game level streaming, and OS responsiveness under heavy multitasking. The drive uses 3D NAND flash memory and incorporates SLC caching alongside Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology. SLC caching provides a fast temporary write buffer for burst operations, while HMB allows the drive to use a portion of system DRAM as a mapping table cache, reducing latency on random access tasks without adding a dedicated DRAM chip. Data integrity and security are addressed through LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) error correction coding, which identifies and corrects bit errors during read operations, and AES 256-bit hardware encryption, which protects stored data at rest. The included black aluminium heat sink with bronzed trimming and sandblasted finish actively dissipates thermal load during sustained workloads. Dimensions with the heat sink fitted are 80 × 22 × 3.13 mm; without the heat sink the drive measures 80 × 22 × 2.15 mm, making it suitable for slim notebook M.2 slots where clearance is limited. The Legend 850 supports both the latest Intel and AMD desktop and notebook platforms and is compatible with the PlayStation 5 console's M.2 expansion slot, enabling expanded storage for PS5 game libraries. It is also backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 hosts, though maximum throughput will be constrained by the host interface in that configuration. — Verified Specifications — Model: ALEG-850-512GCS | Capacity: 512 GB | Form Factor: M.2 2280 | Interface: PCIe Gen4 x4 | NAND: 3D NAND | Sequential Read: 5,000 MB/s | Sequential Write: 2,700 MB/s | 4K Random Read: 380K IOPS | 4K Random Write: 530K IOPS | Operating Temperature: 0°C – 70°C | Storage Temperature: –40°C – 85°C | MTBF: 2,000,000 hours | Warranty: 5-year limited
