Overview
The ASRock B550 Taichi is a full-size ATX motherboard built on the AMD B550 chipset, designed for 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen (AM4 socket) processors and forward-compatible with select future AMD Ryzen AM4 CPUs. Note: it is not compatible with AMD Ryzen 5 3400G or Ryzen 3 3200G. At its core is a 16-phase Digi Power design using 50A Dr. MOS integrated power stages, paired with premium 60A power chokes and Nichicon 12K Black Caps (Japanese-made conductive polymer capacitors). The dual 8-pin 12V Hi-Density Power Connectors and 2oz copper PCB layers ensure stable power delivery and efficient heat management during demanding workloads and overclocking sessions. The board supports four DDR4 DIMM slots in dual-channel configuration, with capacity up to 128GB (requires 32GB per slot). Memory speeds run from DDR4-2133 up to DDR4-4733+ in OC mode with Matisse or Renoir CPUs, and XMP profiles are supported. For storage, the B550 Taichi provides eight SATA3 6Gb/s ports (four native via B550 chipset with RAID 0/1/10, four via ASMedia ASM1061), one Hyper M.2 socket (M2_1) supporting PCIe Gen4 x4 at up to 64Gb/s with Matisse CPUs, and one Ultra M.2 socket (M2_2) supporting PCIe Gen3 x4 or SATA3. Both M.2 slots are covered by an aluminum alloy full-coverage heatsink. Expansion slots include three PCIe x16 slots — with Matisse CPUs operating at Gen4 x16 (single), Gen4 x8/x8 (dual), or Gen4 x8/x8/Gen3 x4 (triple) — plus two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. AMD 3-Way CrossFireX multi-GPU is supported. Connectivity is led by an Intel I225V 2.5 Gigabit LAN controller (10/100/1000/2500 Mb/s) and an Intel Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax module delivering up to 2.4Gbps on dual-band (2.4GHz/5GHz) with MU-MIMO and Bluetooth 5.1. Rear I/O includes one HDMI 2.1 port (up to 4K@60Hz), one DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 5K@120Hz), one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, four USB 3.2 Gen1, two USB 2.0, optical S/PDIF out, gold-plated 7.1-channel audio jacks, and a BIOS Flashback button for BIOS updates without a CPU installed. Front panel headers add a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C connector (10Gb/s) and support for four additional USB 3.2 Gen1 ports. Audio is handled by the Realtek ALC1220 codec delivering 7.1-channel HD audio with a 120dB SNR DAC, NE5532 headset amplifier (supports headsets up to 600 Ohm), individual PCB layers for left/right channel isolation, and Nahimic Audio software.
