At the heart of the Legend 800 is 3D NAND flash memory paired with SLC caching and HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology. SLC caching temporarily stores incoming writes in a faster single-level-cell mode before committing them to the main cells, smoothing out burst workloads such as large file copies or video exports. HMB lets the drive borrow a small portion of system RAM as a DRAM-equivalent cache, keeping random-access latency low without adding a dedicated DRAM chip that would increase cost and thickness. Data integrity is maintained by an LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) engine embedded in the controller, which detects and corrects bit errors before they can affect stored data.
