The ASRock B550 Steel Legend is an ATX-form-factor motherboard built on the AMD B550 chipset and designed for AMD AM4 socket processors, including 3rd Gen Ryzen (Matisse) and compatible future Ryzen CPUs. It is not compatible with Ryzen 5 3400G or Ryzen 3 3200G. Its 14-phase Digi Power design uses 50A Dr.MOS integrated power stages alongside Premium 60A power chokes and Nichicon 12K Black Caps — Japan-made conductive polymer capacitors — to deliver stable voltage under sustained workloads. Four DDR4 DIMM slots support dual-channel memory up to 128 GB, with XMP profiles and overclocked speeds reaching DDR4-4733 (OC). The primary PCIe x16 slot (PCIE1) runs at Gen 4 x16 with Matisse-class CPUs and features ASRock’s reinforced Steel Slot construction. A second x16-length slot operates at Gen 3 x4, and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots round out expansion. AMD CrossFireX multi-GPU configurations are supported. Storage is equally capable: a Hyper M.2 socket (M2_1) handles PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe drives at up to 64 Gb/s, while a second M.2 socket (M2_2) supports PCIe Gen 3 x2 or SATA3 modules. Note that M2_2 shares lanes with SATA3 ports 5 and 6 — enabling one disables the other. Six SATA3 6 Gb/s connectors support RAID 0, 1, and 10 with NCQ, AHCI, and hot-plug capability. Networking centres on a Dragon RTL8125BG 2.5 Gigabit LAN controller (10/100/1000/2500 Mb/s) with Wake- LAN, Energy Efficient Ethernet 802.3az, and ESD protection. A Key E M.2 slot (type 2230) accommodates an optional 802.11ac Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC1220 codec delivering 7.1-channel HD audio with a 120 dB SNR DAC, an NE5532 headset amplifier supporting up to 600-ohm loads, PCB-isolated audio layers, and Nahimic Audio software. Rear I/O includes HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K@60 Hz) and DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 5K@120 Hz) for APU-based display output. USB connectivity spans USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and Type-C ports on the rear panel (10 Gb/s each), two USB 3.2 Gen 1 rear ports, four USB 2.0 rear ports, and front-panel headers for two Gen 1 ports plus one Gen 1 Type-C. Polychrome RGB sync is supported via two 12 V RGB headers and two 5 V addressable LED headers.
