Overview
The ASRock Z390 Taichi WiFi DDR4 is a full-size ATX motherboard built on the Intel Z390 chipset, designed to support both 8th and 9th Generation Intel Core processors via the LGA 1151 socket. Its 12-phase IR Digital PWM power delivery system, paired with a premium 60A power choke, Dual-Stack MOSFETs, and Nichicon 12K Black capacitors, provides stable current to the CPU during demanding workloads and overclocking sessions. Memory support spans four DDR4 DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of 64 GB, natively handling speeds of 2133, 2400, and 2666 MHz, with XMP 2.0 profiles enabling overclocked operation at DDR4 3200 through DDR4 4200. The board hosts three Ultra M.2 sockets — each capable of PCIe Gen3 x4 (up to 32 Gb/s) or SATA3 operation — alongside eight SATA3 6.0 Gb/s ports (six from the Z390 chipset supporting RAID 0/1/5/10, two via ASMedia ASM1061). Intel Optane Technology is also supported. Expansion is handled by three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots and two PCIe 3.0 x1 Flexible slots, with support for NVIDIA Quad SLI and AMD Quad CrossFireX multi-GPU configurations, as well as NVIDIA NVLink for dual GeForce RTX cards. USB provisions include five USB 3.1 Gen2 ports (three rear Type-A, one rear Type-C, one front Type-C header) and eight USB 3.1 Gen1 ports (four rear, four via front headers). Audio is managed by the Realtek ALC1220 codec under ASRock's Purity Sound 4 platform, delivering 7.1-channel HD audio with a 120 dB SNR DAC, an NE5532 headset amplifier capable of driving headphones up to 600 ohms, Nichicon Fine Gold Series audio capacitors, and DTS Connect support. RGB lighting is managed through ASRock Polychrome SYNC, with two 12V RGB headers and one addressable (5V) ARGB header onboard. The dual-BIOS setup (main plus backup, 128 Mb each, AMI UEFI) provides recovery capability. A Dr. Debug LED display simplifies POST troubleshooting.
