Overview
The ASUS Prime X870-P-CSM is a full-size ATX motherboard built on the AMD X870 chipset with an AM5 socket, designed to support AMD Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors. Its power delivery system comprises 14+2+1 power stages, each rated at 80 amperes, integrating high-side and low-side MOSFETs with gate drivers in a single package to provide stable current to high-core-count CPUs under sustained workloads. Memory support is exclusively DDR5 in a dual-channel configuration, with compatibility up to 8000+ MHz via EXPO overclocking profiles. ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile (AEMP) offers additional optimised profiles for modules that do not carry native EXPO certification. Maximum addressable RAM is 256 GB across the board's DIMM slots. Non-ECC unbuffered DDR5 modules with Die ECC are also supported. Storage expansion is served by four M.2 Key-M slots: one operating at PCIe 5.0 x4 for transfers up to 128 Gbps, two at PCIe 4.0 x4 for up to 64 Gbps each, and one at PCIe 3.0. Two SATA 6Gb/s ports round out onboard storage connectivity. Note that PCIEX16(G4)_1 and PCIEX16(G4)_2 share bandwidth with M.2_3 and are disabled when M.2_3 is populated. The back panel provides two USB4 (40 Gbps) Type-C ports — each capable of driving up to two external 4K displays — one USB 10Gbps Type-A port, three USB 5Gbps Type-A ports, four USB 2.0 Type-A ports, one HDMI output, a Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet jack, three analogue audio jacks, and a dedicated BIOS FlashBack button for CPU-less firmware updates. Thermal management is assisted by onboard VRM heatsinks and a comprehensive header array: one CPU fan, one CPU OPT fan, one AIO pump, and four chassis fan headers — all manageable through ASUS Fan Xpert 4 software or directly in UEFI. AI Cooling II dynamically adjusts fan curves based on real-time CPU temperature data. Builder-convenience features include PCIe Slot Q-Release (lever-actuated card removal), M.2 Q-Latch (screwless SSD retention), Q-LED Core POST diagnostic LEDs, a pre-mounted I/O shield, and a reinforced SafeSlot PCIe 5.0 x16 primary slot. Three Addressable Gen 2 (ARGB) headers allow RGB lighting integration. A COM port header and SPI TPM header (14-1 pin) serve commercial and managed deployment scenarios, consistent with the -CSM (Commercial and Small and Medium Business) designation.
