Overview
The Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Ultra is an ATX form-factor motherboard built on the Intel Z490 Express Chipset, designed specifically for 10th Generation Intel Core processors in the LGA1200 socket. It accommodates the full range from Core i3 through Core i9, as well as Pentium and Celeron LGA1200 variants, giving builders a versatile platform for a wide variety of workloads. Power delivery is handled by a direct 12-phase digital VRM solution using 55A DrMOS components. Paired with a NanoCarbon Fins-Array II heatsink and Direct Touch Heatpipe II, the board is engineered to maintain stable temperatures on the VRM even under sustained heavy loads. Three M.2 slots with Thermal Guards II further help manage heat from high-speed NVMe drives. Memory support spans four DDR4 DIMM slots with a total capacity of up to 128 GB (using 32 GB modules). The board supports standard speeds from 2133 MHz and extends via XMP overclocking profiles up to DDR4 5000 MHz. Shielded memory routing traces are incorporated to aid stability at higher frequencies. Connectivity is a strong point. Onboard Intel Wi-Fi 6 (AX201) supports 802.11ax on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band with speeds up to 2.4 Gbps and includes Bluetooth 5.0. Wired networking is provided by an Intel 2.5GbE LAN controller. The back panel offers one USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 support, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and four USB 2.0 ports. Storage options include three M.2 Socket 3 connectors supporting PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA configurations, plus six SATA 6 Gb/s connectors with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. Intel Optane Memory is also supported. Audio is managed by a Realtek ALC1220-VB codec delivering up to 7.1-channel High Definition Audio with DTS:X Ultra support, S/PDIF output, and a rear line-out rated at 120 dB SNR with WIMA capacitors. RGB Fusion 2.0 provides multi-zone addressable LED lighting with two addressable LED headers and two standard RGB headers for strip connectivity. Smart Fan 5 manages up to six fan or pump headers with hybrid control, noise detection, and FAN STOP capability. The Q-Flash Plus feature allows BIOS updates without a CPU, RAM, or GPU installed. Two Thunderbolt add-in card connectors are present on the board for expansion.
