The MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi is an ATX form-factor motherboard built on the AMD X870 chipset for Socket AM5, designed to support AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series desktop processors. Its robust power delivery is anchored by a 14+2+1 Duet Rail Power System fed through dual 8-pin CPU power connectors, with an 8-layer PCB constructed from 2 oz thickened copper and server-grade materials to sustain demanding workloads and overclocking sessions. Memory headroom is generous: four DDR5 UDIMM slots accommodate up to 256 GB of non-ECC, unbuffered RAM. With JEDEC profiles starting at DDR5-4800 MT/s and AMD EXPO overclocking profiles reaching DDR5-8400+ MT/s (1DPC 1R configuration), builders have substantial tuning latitude. Dual-channel mode is supported across all populated configurations. Storage flexibility comes from four M.2 slots. M.2_1 and M.2_2 connect directly to the CPU and each support PCIe 5.0 x4 bandwidth, while M.2_3 and M.2_4 route through the chipset at PCIe 4.0 x2 and PCIe 4.0 x4 respectively. The primary PCIe x16 slot (PCI_E1) runs at PCIe 5.0 x16 for Ryzen 9000 and 7000 series CPUs. RAID 0, 1, and 10 are supported across M.2 NVMe devices. Connectivity is a clear strength. Wireless is handled by a pre-installed Wi-Fi 7 module (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be) with MU-MIMO TX/RX support across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands (up to 320 MHz channel width, up to 5.8 Gbps), plus Bluetooth 5.4 with MLO and 4K-QAM. Wired networking is provided by a Realtek 8126-CG 5G LAN controller. The rear panel delivers two USB 40 Gbps Type-C ports, two USB 10 Gbps Type-A, one USB 10 Gbps Type-C, three USB 5 Gbps Type-A, and four USB 2.0 ports, alongside HDMI 2.1 (up to 8K 60 Hz with compatible APU) and DisplayPort 1.4 via USB4 Type-C. Audio is managed by a Realtek ALC4080 codec delivering 7.1-channel USB audio with up to 32-bit/384 kHz front-panel playback and S/PDIF output. DIY-friendly features include EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II heatsinks with tool-free EZ M.2 Clip II retention, EZ PCIe Release, EZ Antenna installation, and a Flash BIOS button for recovery without a CPU installed. Debugging is aided by four EZ Debug LEDs and an EZ Digit Debug LED display. RGB customisation is available via three addressable V2 RGB headers and one standard RGB header.
