Overview
The MSI MPG B550I Gaming Edge Max WiFi is a Mini-ITX form factor motherboard built on the AMD B550 chipset, designed for AMD Ryzen 5000 and 3000 Series desktop processors as well as AMD Ryzen 4000 G-Series APUs (note: not compatible with Ryzen 5 3400G or Ryzen 3 3200G). Despite its compact 17.0 cm × 17.0 cm footprint, it packs flagship-tier connectivity and power delivery into every layer. The board features an 8+2+1 digital power design using Dr.MOS 60A power stages, paired with an extended PWM heatsink and an 8-layer PCB with 2 oz thickened copper. This thermal architecture is engineered to sustain high-core-count Ryzen processors at full operating speeds under extended load. The M.2 Shield Frozr heatsink covers both M.2 slots to keep NVMe storage temperatures in check during intensive read/write sessions. For memory, two DDR4 slots support dual-channel operation with up to 64 GB of non-ECC unbuffered RAM. JEDEC speeds run from 1866 to 2667 MHz, while A-XMP overclocking profiles push speeds up to 4600 MHz (1DPC 1R) or 4000 MHz (1DPC 2R), all manageable through MSI's BIOS with certified XMP profiles from the MSI OC Lab. Storage options include a PCIe 4.0 / 3.0 x4 M.2 slot sourced from the processor, a secondary PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot from the B550 chipset, and four SATA 6 Gb/s ports. RAID 0, 1, and 10 are supported for SATA devices; RAID 0 and 1 for M.2 NVMe drives. Networking is handled by a Realtek RTL8125B 2.5 Gbps wired LAN controller complemented by an Intel AX200 Wi-Fi 6 module pre-installed in the M.2 Key-E slot — supporting 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, MU-MIMO on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (up to 2.4 Gbps), and Bluetooth 5.1. The rear I/O includes HDMI 2.1 (up to 4096×2160 @ 60 Hz for processors with integrated graphics), USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps Type-A and Type-C ports, USB 3.2 Gen 1 5 Gbps Type-A, USB 2.0, Optical S/PDIF output, PS/2 combo port, and a pre-installed I/O shield. A Flash BIOS Button and Clear CMOS button are also present for simplified maintenance. Audio is powered by the Realtek ALC1200 codec delivering 7.1-channel high-definition audio. An internal 3-pin RAINBOW LED connector and four EZ Debug LEDs round out the feature set.
