The Noctua NH-D12L is a dual-tower CPU air cooler designed for builders who need strong thermal performance within tighter height constraints. Standing just 145mm tall without a fan — compared to 158mm for Noctua’s standard 120mm tower coolers — the NH-D12L fits a broader range of cases including 4U rackmount servers, many mid-tower enclosures with restricted clearance, and select larger Small Form Factor and Mini-ITX chassis. At its core, the NH-D12L pairs a copper base and heatpipe assembly with aluminium cooling fins joined via soldered connections rather than a press-fit. Soldered joints eliminate the performance degradation that can occur over years of thermal cycling as differing expansion coefficients between copper and aluminium cause press-fitted fins to loosen. The entire heatsink body is nickel-plated for corrosion resistance and a clean finish in chromax.black. The cooler ships with a single Noctua NF-A12x25r PWM fan — the round-frame variant of Noctua’s NF-A12x25 series — which spins up to 2000 RPM and generates up to 102.1 m³/h of airflow at a maximum noise level of 22.6 dB(A). With the included NA-RC14 Low-Noise Adaptor, maximum speed drops to 1700 RPM, airflow to 84.5 m³/h, and acoustic output to 18.8 dB(A). A second pair of fan clips is included for buyers who wish to mount an additional NF-A12x25r in push-pull; note that adding a second fan will typically increase overall height beyond 145mm depending on placement. The NH-D12L’s asymmetric fin-stack design means the cooler does not overhang RAM slots on Intel LGA1700-family, LGA1200, LGA115x, or AMD AM4/AM5 platforms, ensuring full clearance for tall DIMM heat-spreaders and RGB memory modules. On LGA2066, the rear fin stack overhangs the left-side RAM slots, so memory must not exceed 45mm in height on that platform.
