The Noctua NH-D9 DX-4677 4U is a compact dual-tower CPU air cooler purpose-built for Intel Xeon workstations and servers based on the LGA4677 (Socket E1) and LGA4710 (Socket E2) platforms. Part of Noctua's specialist DX line, which has served Intel Xeon users since 2008, this cooler is designed from the ground up to meet the demands of professional computing environments where low acoustic output and reliable long-term operation are priorities. At the heart of the cooler is an enlarged copper contact surface measuring 70×56mm — more than double the size of a standard contact base — carefully proportioned to match the large integrated heat spreaders found on LGA4677 and LGA4710 processors. Heat is transferred from this base through copper heatpipes to aluminium cooling fins, with all joints soldered and finished with nickel plating for durability and corrosion resistance. The NH-D9 DX-4677 4U ships with two NF-A9 92mm HS-PWM fans in a push/pull arrangement. Running at up to 2,500 RPM and controlled via the included NA-YC1 4-pin PWM y-cable, both fans can be managed from a single motherboard header, allowing the system to scale fan speed automatically with thermal load. This configuration delivers strong cooling performance for such a compact form factor. With a total height of 134mm and a footprint of 95×95mm (heatsink only), the cooler is engineered to fit most 4U rack-mount enclosures and maintains good PCIe slot clearance. The direction of airflow runs parallel to the long axis of the LGA4677/LGA4710 socket, making it suitable for chassis where exhaust fans are oriented in that direction. Mounting is handled by the SecuFirm2 system, which integrates standard Intel components including the anti-tilt mechanism, Torx T30 PEEK nuts, and CPU-specific carrier frames (E1A, E1B, E1C, E2A, E2B compatible). A NM-SMT5 Torx T30 mounting tool is included in the box. NT-H1 pro-grade thermal compound is pre-applied to the heatsink base for consistent bond-line thickness during installation.
