The Noctua NH-L9a-AM5 is a low-profile CPU air cooler engineered specifically for AMD AM5 (LGA1718) processors, making it an ideal thermal solution for HTPC and Small Form Factor builds where vertical space is at a premium. With a total installed height of just 37mm — comprising a 23mm heatsink body and the slim 14mm-thick NF-A9x14 fan — it slips comfortably into compact cases that would reject any standard-height cooler. The heatsink’s footprint is sized to remain within AMD’s socket keep-out zone, meaning neither the fins nor the fan overhang the DIMM slots or the PCIe slot. Users building on tightly packed mini-ITX motherboards therefore retain full access to tall memory modules, PCIe add-in cards, and near-socket headers without any clearance compromises. Cooling performance is delivered through copper heatpipes soldered directly to aluminium fins — not press-fitted — which prevents the thermal-cycling gap degradation that can affect lesser coolers over time. The base and heatpipes are copper with nickel plating, and all joints are soldered for long-term reliability. The included NF-A9x14 HS-PWM fan features Noctua’s SSO2 bearing and supports fully automatic speed control via PWM. For near-silent operation, the bundled NA-RC7 Low-Noise Adaptor (LNA) caps fan speed at 1800 RPM, reducing noise to just 14.8 dB(A) and airflow to 40.8 m³/h — a worthwhile trade-off for lightly loaded Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, or Ryzen 9 systems. The custom SecuFirm2™ AM5 mounting kit attaches through the stock AM5 backplate holes, resulting in a straightforward, tool-friendly installation. Optional NM-AM4-L9aL9i hardware (available separately from Noctua) allows the same cooler to be retrofitted to AM4 platforms.
