The Noctua NH-U14S DX-4189 is a purpose-built, single-tower CPU air cooler engineered exclusively for Intel's LGA4189 platform — the Whitley socket used by 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors (Ice Lake-SP: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers) as well as W-3300 series Xeon workstation CPUs (Ice Lake-64L). It is part of Noctua's DX line, a range dedicated to quiet, premium-grade thermal solutions for Intel Xeon platforms. At the heart of the design is an enlarged copper contact surface measuring 70 x 56 mm — more than double the area of a standard NH-U14S base — specifically shaped to match the large integrated heat-spreaders found on LGA4189-based processors. Six copper heatpipes draw heat through the base and distribute it across a fin array exceeding 6,000 cm² of surface area, enabling efficient passive dissipation before the fan even starts working hard. The cooler ships with Noctua's NF-A15 HS-PWM fan, a 140 mm unit running on an SSO2 bearing. At full speed the fan reaches 1,500 RPM, delivering up to 140.2 m³/h of airflow while remaining at or below 24.6 dB(A) — quiet enough for audio/video production suites and noise-sensitive professional environments. PWM control lets the motherboard ramp speed down to a minimum of 600 RPM at 20% PWM duty cycle; an optional Low-Noise Adapter (L.N.A.) caps the fan at 300 RPM for even quieter operation.
