The ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero BTF is a flagship ATX motherboard built on the Intel Z790 chipset with an LGA1700 socket, supporting Intel Core 14th, 13th, and 12th Generation processors including Pentium Gold and Celeron models. Its defining feature is the BTF (Back to Front) hidden-connector design, which routes power and data cables behind the board to deliver a dramatically cleaner interior aesthetic without sacrificing real-world functionality. Power delivery is handled by a robust 20+1+2 power stage configuration paired with dual ProCool II 8-pin +12V connectors, high-quality MicroFine alloy chokes, and 10K black metallic capacitors. A dedicated graphics card high-power slot supports the PCIe high-power connector standard, capable of delivering up to 600 watts directly through the motherboard. Massive VRM heatsinks, joined by an L-shaped heatpipe and high-conductivity thermal pads, manage thermals under sustained loads. Storage options are generous: five M.2 Key-M slots are onboard, with the primary M.2_1 slot supporting PCIe 5.0 x4 for next-generation NVMe SSDs, and four additional slots running PCIe 4.0 x4. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports round out legacy storage connectivity. The single PCIe 5.0 x16 SafeSlot accommodates the latest discrete graphics cards. Memory support covers four DDR5 DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of 192GB. Speeds range from 4800 MT/s (native) up to 8000+ MT/s via overclocking, with support for Intel XMP, ASUS AEMP II, and DIMM Flex for simplified memory tuning. Connectivity highlights include onboard Intel Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be, 2x2, 2.4/5/6GHz, up to 5.76Gbps) with Bluetooth 5.4, Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet with ASUS LANGuard, and two rear Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports. The rear I/O also provides six USB 10Gbps ports, four USB 5Gbps ports, and HDMI 2.1 (4K@60Hz). The front-panel header supports a USB 20Gbps Type-C connector. Audio is handled by the ROG SupremeFX ALC4082 codec paired with an ESS ES9218 Quad DAC, delivering up to 32-bit/384kHz playback, 120dB SNR stereo output, and 110dB SNR recording input. SupremeFX Shielding Technology and gold-plated audio jacks are included. AI-assisted features through ASUS Armoury Crate include AI Overclocking, AI Cooling II, AI Networking, and Two-Way AI Noise Cancelation.
