Overview
The ASRock B550 Extreme4 is a full-size ATX motherboard built on AMD's B550 chipset, designed to pair with AMD AM4 socket processors including Ryzen 3000, 4000 G-Series, and 5000 Series desktop CPUs (note: not compatible with Ryzen 5 3400G or Ryzen 3 3200G). Its 14-phase digital power design, featuring 50A Dr.MOS power stages and Premium 60A power chokes, provides a stable power delivery foundation for demanding workloads and overclocking. Memory support covers four DDR4 DIMM slots in dual-channel configuration with a maximum capacity of 128 GB. Both Ryzen Matisse CPUs and Renoir APUs can run DDR4 at speeds up to 4733+ MHz (OC), with XMP profile support for simplified memory tuning. Storage connectivity is generous: a Hyper M.2 socket (M2_1) supports PCIe Gen4 x4 modules at up to 64 Gb/s with Matisse CPUs, while a second M.2 socket (M2_2) accommodates PCIe Gen3 x2 and SATA3 modules. Six SATA3 6.0 Gb/s ports round out storage with support for RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10. Note that M2_2 and SATA3 ports 5–6 share bandwidth and cannot be used simultaneously. Networking is handled by the Dragon RTL8125BG controller, delivering 2.5 Gigabit LAN (10/100/1000/2500 Mb/s) with Smart Auto Adjust Bandwidth Control and game-traffic prioritisation. A dedicated M.2 Key E slot supports optional 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards. Audio is powered by a Realtek ALC1220 codec with a 120 dB SNR DAC, NE5532 headset amplifier supporting impedances up to 600 Ohm, PCB-isolated left/right audio channels, and Nahimic Audio software. The rear panel provides gold-plated audio jacks alongside an optical S/PDIF output. USB connectivity includes a rear-panel USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A and Type-C pair (both at 10 Gb/s), two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A rear ports, four USB 2.0 rear ports, a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen1 header, and a front-panel USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C header. RGB customisation is available via two standard RGB LED headers and two addressable (ARGB) LED headers, controlled through ASRock Polychrome SYNC software.
