The ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme WiFi DDR5 is a flagship EATX motherboard built around the Intel Z690 chipset and LGA1700 socket, designed to support 12th Gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors. At its core sits a 24+1 teamed power delivery system using ProCool II connectors, MicroFine alloy chokes, and 10K black metallic capacitors rated at 105A per stage, providing a robust foundation for demanding workloads and overclocking sessions. Memory support reaches up to 128GB across four DDR5 DIMM slots, with compatibility extending from native DDR5-4800 up to DDR5-6400+ in overclocked configurations via Intel XMP and ASUS OptiMem III tuning. Storage is equally comprehensive: one M.2 slot runs at PCIe 5.0 x4, two additional onboard M.2 slots support PCIe 4.0 x4, and a dedicated ROG DIMM.2 expansion card adds two more PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots, for a total of five M.2 slots alongside six SATA 6Gb/s ports. Connectivity is led by dual-stack networking: an Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet controller pairs with a Marvell AQtion 10Gb Ethernet port, while onboard Intel Wi-Fi 6E delivers wireless capability. Two PCIe 5.0 x16 expansion slots handle graphics duties in x16 or x8/x8 configurations, complemented by a single PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. USB coverage is extensive: the rear I/O provides ten ports including one Thunderbolt 4 Type-C, one USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, and eight USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (seven Type-A plus one Type-C). Front-panel headers mirror this with a second Thunderbolt 4 connector and a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connector supporting Quick Charge 4+ at up to 60W output. Audio is handled by the ROG SupremeFX subsystem using the ALC4082 codec paired with an ESS SABRE9018Q2C DAC/AMP, delivering 120dB SNR stereo playback and 113dB SNR recording, with support for up to 32-bit/384kHz playback and a rear optical S/PDIF output. Personalisation options include a 2-inch LiveDash OLED, AniMe Matrix LED display on the I/O cover, one AURA RGB header, and three Addressable Gen 2 headers. Enthusiast OC tools include LN2 Mode, Slow Mode, ReTry and Safe Boot buttons, a V-Latch switch, 12 ProbeIt measurement points, and dual BIOS via two 256Mb Flash ROM chips.
