The ASUS ROG Strix Z490-F Gaming is an ATX form-factor motherboard built around the Intel Z490 chipset and the LGA 1200 socket, making it compatible with 10th Generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors. Its 12+2 power-stage delivery system, paired with ProCool II power connectors, high-quality alloy chokes, and durable capacitors, is engineered to sustain the demands of multi-core processors under extended workloads. Thermal management is handled by a U-shaped heatpipe MOS heatsink, an extended VRM heatsink, dual onboard M.2 heatsinks, and a dedicated fan bracket for optional supplemental airflow. Memory support spans four DDR4 DIMM slots accommodating up to 128 GB of non-ECC unbuffered RAM in dual-channel configuration. Native speeds reach DDR4-2666/2400/2133, while XMP profiles and ASUS OptiMem II technology allow overclocked operation up to DDR4-4600. Storage options include two M.2 slots — the first supporting both SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4, the second PCIe 3.0 x4 only — alongside six SATA 6 Gb/s ports with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 arrays, and Intel Optane Memory readiness. Networking is handled by an Intel I225-V 2.5 Gb Ethernet controller protected by ASUS LANGuard surge protection. Audio is delivered through the ROG SupremeFX S1220A 8-channel HD codec, featuring dual op-amplifiers, impedance sensing for headphone outputs, 120 dB SNR stereo playback, 113 dB SNR recording input, and SupremeFX Shielding technology with premium Japanese capacitors and gold-plated jacks. An optical S/PDIF output is included on the rear I/O panel. Connectivity at the rear I/O comprises eight USB ports (four USB 3.2 Gen 2, including one Type-C; two USB 3.2 Gen 1; two USB 2.0), one DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 1.4b, and five gold-plated audio jacks. Internal headers add a further seven front-panel USB ports. The board supports NVIDIA 2-Way SLI and AMD 3-Way CrossFireX via its PCIe 3.0 expansion slots. ASUS Aura Sync RGB lighting, two addressable Gen 2 headers, and two standard RGB strip headers enable extensive personalisation. DIY-friendly features include a pre-mounted I/O shield, BIOS Flashback, Q-LED diagnostic LEDs, Q-Slot, Q-DIMM, and FlexKey.
