Overview
The ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F Gaming is a full-size ATX motherboard built on the Intel Z390 chipset, designed to support Intel Socket 1151 processors from the 8th and 9th generation lineup — including Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron families. Measuring 12 x 9.6 inches (30.5 x 24.4 cm), it fits standard ATX mid-tower and full-tower cases and ships with a pre-mounted I/O shield to simplify installation. Memory configuration centres on four DDR4 DIMM slots capable of holding up to 64 GB of non-ECC unbuffered RAM in dual-channel mode. Native JEDEC speeds of 2133, 2400, and 2666 MHz are supported, while Intel XMP profiles allow overclocking up to 4266 MHz. The board's ASUS Optimem II traces improve signal integrity to help push memory clocks further with greater stability. Storage options include two M.2 Socket 3 (M-key) slots — one supporting SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4, the other PCIe 3.0 x4 only with lengths up to 22110 mm — alongside six SATA 6 Gb/s ports. RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 configurations are supported, and the board is Intel Optane Memory Ready. Expansion is handled by three PCIe slots: two full-length PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 slots (running at x16 or dual x8 for NVIDIA 2-Way SLI) and one x16 physical slot limited to x4 electrical, plus three PCIe 3.0/2.0 x1 slots. AMD 3-Way CrossFireX is also supported. Audio is delivered by the SupremeFX solution using the S1220A codec — an 8-channel HD audio chip with dual op-amplifiers, impedance sensing for headphone outputs, 120 dB SNR stereo playback, 113 dB SNR recording input, and 32-bit/192 kHz playback support. Dedicated PCB audio layers separate left and right channels, and Japanese-made audio capacitors are fitted. Optical S/PDIF output is available on the rear panel. Connectivity on the rear I/O includes four USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports (three Type-A and one Type-C), two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort, one HDMI, one RJ-45 (Intel I219V Gigabit LAN), optical S/PDIF out, and five audio jacks. ROG GameFirst Technology and Anti-surge LANGuard protect and prioritise network traffic. RGB and lighting customisation is handled through ASUS AURA Sync, with two standard Aura RGB strip headers and one addressable (ARGB) strip header on board. Fan control is managed via Fan Xpert 4, supporting CPU, chassis, water pump, AIO pump, and M.2 fan headers. The 5-Way Optimisation utility combines AI Overclocking, EPU power management, DIGI+ VRM digital power control, fan tuning, and application prioritisation in a single automated workflow.
