The ASUS ROG Maximus XII Hero WiFi is a full-sized ATX motherboard built on Intel's Z490 chipset, designed for 10th Generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors using the LGA Socket 1200 interface. Measuring 12 x 9.5 inches (30.5 x 24.4 cm), it fits standard ATX tower cases and provides a solid foundation for high-performance gaming and productivity builds. Memory support is extensive: four DIMM slots accommodate up to 128 GB of non-ECC unbuffered DDR4 RAM in dual-channel configuration, with native speeds of up to 2933 MHz on Core i9/i7 CPUs and overclocked profiles reaching up to 4800 MHz (O.C.) via Intel XMP and ASUS OptiMem III tuning. Storage options are versatile, with three M.2 Socket 3 slots (two supporting up to 22110 form factor, one up to 2280) running PCIe 3.0 x4 and/or SATA modes, alongside six SATA 6 Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 support. The board is also Intel Optane Memory Ready. Connectivity stands out with Intel Wi-Fi 6 (AX201) delivering up to 2.4 Gbps on dual-band 2.4/5 GHz frequencies, Bluetooth 5.1, and dual wired Ethernet: an Intel I219-V 1 Gb port and a Marvell AQtion AQC111C 5 Gb port, both protected by ASUS LANGuard. USB provisioning includes 10 rear ports (4x USB 3.2 Gen 2, 4x USB 3.2 Gen 1, 2x USB 2.0) and 7 internal front-panel headers. Audio is handled by the ROG SupremeFX S1220 codec delivering 7.1 surround sound, 120 dB SNR stereo playback, 113 dB SNR recording, and up to 24-bit/192kHz playback, paired with an ESS ES9023 DAC and RC4580 op-amp. Gold-plated rear audio jacks and an optical S/PDIF output complete the audio stack. Expansion slots consist of two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (from the CPU, running x16 or dual x8) and one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot in x4 mode (from the chipset), plus three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots.
