The MSI Z890 Gaming Plus WIFI7 is an ATX form-factor motherboard built around the Intel Z890 chipset and LGA 1851 socket, designed to house Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors. Its power delivery architecture uses a 14+1+1+1 Duet Rail Power System with 55A DrMOS components and dual 8-pin CPU power connectors, supported by a 6-layer PCB constructed with 2 oz thickened copper — all aimed at sustaining consistent performance under extended workloads. Memory support spans four DDR5 UDIMM slots with a maximum capacity of 256 GB. In a single-DIMM-per-channel, single-rank configuration, speeds reach up to 9200+ MT/s (OC); dual-rank configurations top out at 7200+ MT/s (1DPC) or 4800+ MT/s (2DPC). The board supports Intel XMP 3.0, JEDEC speeds from 4800 MT/s, and is compatible with CUDIMM modules. Storage options include four M.2 slots: the primary slot (M.2_1, CPU-direct) runs at PCIe 5.0 x4 and accepts 2280/2260 devices, while the remaining three chipset-connected slots operate at PCIe 4.0 x4. Connectivity on the rear panel includes one Thunderbolt 4 port (40 Gbps, Type-C) with DisplayPort 2.1 support (up to 8K@60 Hz or 4K@120 Hz via iGPU), HDMI 2.1 (4K@60 Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60 Hz), and a full complement of USB ports spanning USB 2.0, USB 5 Gbps, USB 10 Gbps, and USB 20 Gbps (front header). Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC897 codec delivering 7.1-channel HD audio. Onboard RGB features include three JARGB_V2 (addressable) headers, one JRGB header, and four EZ Debug LEDs for fast fault diagnosis. Thermal management uses MSI's Frozr Guard system — an extended heatsink, 7 W/mK MOSFET thermal pads, choke thermal pads, and EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II heatsinks.
