Overview
The ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Plus DDR4 is an ATX-form-factor motherboard built on the AMD B550 chipset, designed for AMD AM4-socket processors including 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen CPUs. Measuring 12 x 9.6 inches (30.5 x 24.4 cm), it fits standard ATX mid-tower and full-tower cases while delivering a robust platform for gaming and productivity workloads. Power delivery is handled by an 8+2 DrMOS power-stage design backed by ProCool sockets and ASUS Digi+ VRM digital power control, helping ensure stable voltage to the CPU under sustained load. The board ships with a VRM heatsink, a fanless PCH heatsink, an aluminum M.2 heatsink, and five hybrid fan headers controlled through Fan Xpert software, giving builders flexible thermal management without additional hardware. For memory, four DIMM slots accommodate up to 128 GB of unbuffered DDR4 in dual-channel configuration. Native speeds of DDR4-2133 through DDR4-3200 are supported, with overclocking profiles available up to DDR4-4600 on 3rd Gen Ryzen or DDR4-4800 on Ryzen PRO processors. ECC support varies by CPU. Storage options include two M.2 Socket 3 (M-key) slots — one CPU-connected running PCIe 4.0 x4 or SATA, one chipset-connected running PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA — plus six SATA 6 Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, and 10 support. Note that populating the second M.2 slot disables SATA ports 5 and 6. Expansion slots consist of one PCIe 4.0 x16 (CPU, x16 mode), one PCIe 3.0 x16 (chipset, x4 mode), and three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, with AMD 2-Way CrossFireX multi-GPU support. Rear I/O includes 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet via a Realtek RTL8125B controller with TUF LANGuard surge protection, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, two USB 2.0 Type-A (one switchable to BIOS FlashBack), DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 (4K@60Hz), optical S/PDIF out, five 3.5 mm audio jacks, and a BIOS FlashBack button for CPU-free firmware updates. Audio is powered by the Realtek ALC S1200A codec supporting 7.1-channel surround sound at up to 24-bit/192 kHz playback, with a 108 dB SNR for stereo line-out and dedicated audio PCB layers, audio shielding, premium Japanese capacitors, and a unique de-pop circuit. A Key-E M.2 slot supports an optional Wi-Fi module (sold separately). AURA Sync RGB lighting is supported via two standard RGB headers and one Addressable Gen 2 header.
