The ASUS ROG STRIX B860-I Gaming WiFi is a Mini-ITX motherboard built around the Intel B860 chipset, engineered to support Intel Core Ultra Processors (Series 2). Despite its compact 6.7 × 6.7 inch (17 × 17 cm) footprint, it packs connectivity and performance features typically found in larger form factors, making it a strong choice for small-form-factor gaming rigs and AI-accelerated workstation builds. At the heart of its memory subsystem are two DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to 128 GB in dual-channel configuration. The board pushes DDR5 speeds up to 9066+ MT/s (OC) via ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile III (AEMP III) and Intel XMP support, with CUDIMM compatibility and DIMM Fit BIOS analysis for per-module optimisation. Storage is handled by two M.2 Key-M slots: M.2_1 (type 2260/2280) operates at PCIe 5.0 x4 for sequential speeds up to 16 GB/s, while M.2_2 (type 2242/2260/2280) runs PCIe 4.0 x4 for up to 8 GB/s. Four SATA 6 Gb/s ports with RAID 0/1/5/10 support add further storage flexibility. Every M.2 slot is covered by dedicated heatsinks with high-conductivity thermal pads. Connectivity includes 2×2 WiFi 7 (802.11be) across 2.4/5/6 GHz bands at up to 2.9 Gbps, Bluetooth 5.4, and Intel 2.5 Gb Ethernet with ASUS LANGuard surge protection. AI Networking II software continuously tunes network performance in real time. The rear I/O provides 8 USB ports — including a Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) port supporting DisplayPort 2.1 output at up to 8K@60Hz, a USB 20 Gbps Type-C, one USB 10 Gbps Type-A, and three USB 5 Gbps Type-A — plus DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), HDMI 2.1 (4K@60Hz), Intel 2.5 Gb Ethernet, optical S/PDIF, and two audio jacks. Internal headers add five further USB ports including a front USB 10 Gbps Type-C connector. Audio is handled by the Realtek ALC1220P codec with SupremeFX Shielding, Savitech SV3H712 amplifier, 120 dB SNR playback output, and support for up to 32-bit/192 kHz playback. The single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot features a SafeSlot retention bracket rated for heavy graphics cards. NPU Boost enables one-click NPU overclocking on compatible Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, with a claimed performance uplift of up to 24% for AI workloads. The Asynchronous Clock Generator isolates CPU base clock from memory, NPU, and other domains for independent frequency tuning. VRM cooling is managed by an extended heatsink with high-conductivity thermal pads. Fan headers include a 4-pin CPU fan, 4-pin AIO pump, and 4-pin chassis fan. RGB is supported via two Addressable Gen 2 headers with Aura Sync compatibility.
