The ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme is a flagship E-ATX motherboard built on the AMD X870E chipset for AMD Socket AM5 processors, including Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series desktop CPUs. Designed to push the limits of high-end desktop performance, it delivers extensive PCIe 5.0 support, a rich connectivity suite, and an enthusiast-grade overclocking toolset. At the heart of its storage platform are up to five M.2 slots — three direct CPU-connected slots supporting PCIe 5.0 x4 (with Ryzen 9000 and 7000 series) and two additional slots via the ROG Q-DIMM.2 adapter operating at PCIe 4.0 x4 — alongside four SATA 6Gb/s ports and a SlimSAS connector. Two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots with Q-Release Slim accommodate the most demanding graphics cards and expansion devices. Memory support spans four DDR5 DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of 256 GB, reaching up to 8200+ MT/s (OC) with Ryzen 9000, with compatibility for AMD EXPO and ASUS AEMP profiles. Dual-channel architecture and NitroPath DRAM Technology round out the memory subsystem. Connectivity is a standout: the rear panel provides two USB4 (40 Gbps) Type-C ports, ten USB 10 Gbps ports, integrated Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be, 2×2, 2.4/5/6 GHz, up to 6.5 Gbps), Bluetooth 5.4, a Realtek 5GbE port, and a Marvell AQtion 10GbE port. A front-panel USB 20 Gbps connector supports up to 60 W fast charging (PD/QC4+) when the 8-pin PCIe power cable is connected. Audio is handled by the ROG SupremeFX subsystem using the ALC4082 codec paired with an ESS ES9219 QUAD DAC, delivering 120 dB SNR stereo playback and 110 dB SNR recording, with support for 32-bit/384 kHz playback on the front panel. For enthusiast overclockers, the Extreme OC Kit includes an LN2 Mode jumper, ProbeIt measurement points, ReTry and Safe Boot buttons, a Slow Mode switch, and a FlexKey button. AI Overclocking, AI Cooling II, and Dynamic OC Switcher enable automated and adaptive performance tuning. ASUS AI Cache Boost, exclusive to ASUS AMD 800 and 600 series boards with compatible Ryzen 9000 Granite Ridge CPUs, is stated to deliver up to 12.75% faster LLM task performance through enhanced cache efficiency. A full-colour 5-inch onboard LCD display allows real-time system monitoring or personalised visual customisation.
