Western Digital Purple Pro 8TB 7200 RPM Surveillance Hard Drive (WD8002PURP)

The Western Digital Purple Pro 8TB (WD8002PURP) is a 3.5-inch internal hard drive purpose-built for AI-enabled video surveillance environments. Running at 7200 RPM and equipped with a 256MB cache, it delivers sequential transfer rates of up to 267 MB/s over a SATA 6 Gb/s interface — making it well-suited for multi-stream recording systems that need to ingest high-definition video, image data, and metadata concurrently without dropping frames. At the heart of its design is AllFrame AI technology, which intelligently guides video, image, and metadata streams to disk while actively working to mitigate dropped frames. This helps ensure that footage remains complete and usable for downstream AI analytics — critical in systems where video integrity directly affects analytical accuracy. The WD Purple Pro carries a workload rating of up to 550TB per year, which is three times that of mainstream video surveillance drives. This makes it a practical choice for demanding video management systems running advanced AI analytics alongside heavy continuous recording. It is rated up to 2.5 million hours MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and carries a 5-year limited warranty, underscoring its positioning as an enterprise-class surveillance drive designed for 24/7 always-on operation. Western Digital Device Analytics (WDDA) provides proactive drive health monitoring, flagging issues and recommending corrective action to help keep surveillance systems running reliably. WDDA requires a compatible video recorder or system to function. The drive is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, and DVR/NVR systems, making it flexible across various deployment scenarios including commercial CCTV installations, analytics servers, and high-end video recorders.
