The ASUS Prime TRX40-Pro is a high-end desktop (HEDT) motherboard built around the AMD TRX40 chipset and AMD Socket sTRX4, designed specifically for 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper series desktop processors. It is aimed at content creators, 3D artists, CAD professionals, and video editors who need a stable, powerful foundation for demanding multi-core workloads. At the heart of its power delivery are 16 Infineon TDA21462 power stages paired with ProCool II connectors featuring solid pins, premium chokes, and high-quality capacitors. Two 8-pin ATX 12V connectors feed the CPU, supporting processors with up to 280W TDP and up to 32 cores. Memory capacity is handled by eight DIMM slots supporting up to 256 GB of unbuffered DDR4 memory in a quad-channel configuration, with speeds up to DDR4 3200 MHz and ECC support for workstation-grade reliability. Storage is a standout strength: three PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots (two via CPU, one via chipset) support drives up to 110 mm in length, and all three are compatible with RAID configurations for accelerated data throughput. Eight SATA 6Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, and 10 support round out the storage options. Expansion is equally capable, with three PCIe 4.0 x16 slots from the CPU (configurable at x16/x16/x16) and one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot from the chipset, enabling Quad-GPU SLI or CrossFireX configurations. Connectivity includes an Intel I211-AT Gigabit Ethernet controller with ASUS Turbo LAN and LAN Guard software. USB ports include four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports at the rear (3x Type-A, 1x Type-C), six USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports at the rear, and additional headers internally. A USB 3.2 Gen 2 front-panel Type-C header is also provided. Audio is handled by the Realtek ALC S1220 8-channel HD Audio CODEC with Crystal Sound 3, offering 120 dB SNR line-out, dedicated audio PCB layers, audio shielding, and DTS X Ultra support. Thermal management includes a VRM heatsink, M.2 heatsink, SoC VRM heatsink, and an active chipset heatsink, complemented by multiple 4-pin hybrid fan headers controllable via Fan Xpert 4. ASUS Aura Sync RGB lighting with two RGB strip headers and two Addressable Gen 2 headers allow full ecosystem lighting coordination.
