The ASUS Prime X299-A is an ATX form-factor motherboard built on the Intel X299 chipset, designed to pair with Intel Core X-Series processors via the LGA 2066 (Socket 2066) interface. Whether you are a content creator, video editor, or a power user running heavily threaded workloads, this board offers a platform engineered around flexibility, cooling performance, and connectivity. The 5-Way Optimization system combines TPU, EPU, DIGI+ VRM, Fan Xpert 4, and Turbo Core tuning into a single-click process, allowing both novice and experienced builders to dial in performance without manual intervention. Fan Xpert 4 provides per-header control over fans and water pumps, with each header configurable to respond to up to three user-defined thermal sensors — a practical advantage for thermally demanding tasks. Storage is a clear strength. Two M.2 slots are onboard: one supports SATA and PCIe 3.0 x4 (2242/2260/2280 form factors), while the second supports PCIe 3.0 x4 exclusively with lengths up to 22110. Both run at up to 32 Gb/s. An M.2 heatsink is included to help manage SSD thermals, with source data noting up to 20°C reduction in M.2 SSD temperatures. Eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports round out storage, with RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 support. Intel Optane Memory is also supported. For audio, the Realtek S1220A 8-channel HD audio codec is featured, with dedicated left/right PCB layers, an EMI shield, Japanese-made audio capacitors, DTS Connect, and DTS Headphone:X support. Networking is handled by a single Intel I219V Gigabit LAN controller backed by ASUS LAN Guard and Turbo LAN utility. USB connectivity includes USB 3.1 Gen 2 at the back panel (one Type-A and one Type-C) via ASMedia controller, four USB 3.1 Gen 1 at the back panel, two USB 2.0 back-panel ports, and additional mid-board headers. A front-panel USB 3.1 Gen 2 header is also present. Aura Sync RGB lighting with two onboard strip headers enables ecosystem-wide lighting coordination.
