The ASUS Prime Z790-A WiFi DDR5 is an ATX-form-factor motherboard built on the Intel Z790 chipset with an LGA 1700 socket, making it compatible with Intel 12th-generation Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors as well as 13th-generation Intel Core processors. At 12 × 9.6 inches (30.5 × 24.4 cm), it fits standard ATX mid-tower and full-tower enclosures and ships with a pre-mounted I/O shield to simplify installation. Power delivery centres on a 16+1 DrMOS configuration paired with ProCool connectors, alloy chokes, and durable capacitors. Two 8-pin +12V EPS connectors and a 24-pin ATX connector supply stable current under sustained workloads. Large VRM heatsinks and dedicated M.2 heatsinks with backplates help keep thermals in check, while six 4-pin fan headers (CPU, CPU OPT, AIO Pump, and four chassis headers) alongside Fan Xpert 4 and AI Cooling II software enable precise fan and pump management. Memory support spans four DDR5 DIMM slots capable of holding up to 128 GB in a dual-channel configuration. Native speeds begin at DDR5-4800 and rise to DDR5-5600, with XMP and ASUS OptiMem II profiles enabling overclocked operation up to DDR5-7000. Storage is equally expansive: four PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots (M.2_1 and M.2_3 supporting up to 22110 length; M.2_2 and M.2_4 up to 2280) join four SATA 6 Gb/s ports. Intel Rapid Storage Technology enables PCIe RAID 0/1/5/10 and SATA RAID 0/1/5/10. Expansion slots include one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot (CPU-direct) for discrete graphics, one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot operating in x4 mode, one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, and two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots — all from the Z790 chipset. Connectivity is comprehensive. The rear I/O provides eight USB ports: one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C (20 Gb/s), two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A plus one Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gb/s each), and four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gb/s). An onboard Thunderbolt header (USB4) accommodates add-in Thunderbolt cards. Networking combines 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax, 2.4/5/6 GHz) with Bluetooth 5.3 and an Intel 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port protected by ASUS LANGuard. Display outputs include one HDMI 2.1 port (4K@60Hz) and one DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 8K@60Hz) for systems using integrated graphics. Audio is handled by a Realtek S1220A codec offering 7.1-channel surround sound, 120 dB SNR stereo playback, and 113 dB SNR line-in recording, backed by dedicated audio PCB layers, audio shielding, and premium capacitors. Three ASUS Addressable Gen 2 headers and one Aura RGB header connect to the Aura Sync ecosystem for lighting control.
