Overview
The Gigabyte B550 Gaming X is an ATX-form-factor motherboard (305 mm x 244 mm) built on the AMD B550 chipset and designed for AMD Socket AM4. It supports 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen processors as well as 3rd Generation AMD Ryzen with Radeon Graphics processors, making it a capable foundation for mid-range gaming and productivity builds. Memory capacity is handled by four DDR4 DIMM slots in a dual-channel configuration, supporting up to 128 GB of system memory with a maximum single-DIMM capacity of 32 GB. With compatible Ryzen CPUs, memory speeds up to DDR4 4000 (O.C.) are supported, while Ryzen with Radeon Graphics APUs can reach up to DDR4 4733 (O.C.). XMP profiles and ECC Un-buffered modules are also supported. Storage options are generous for the B550 tier. A CPU-connected M.2 slot (M2A_CPU) supports PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSDs with 3rd Gen Ryzen processors, while a second chipset-connected M.2 slot (M2B_SB) supports PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe or SATA drives. Four SATA 6 Gb/s connectors with support for RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10 round out the storage interface. Expansion is provided by one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot (CPU-direct, for discrete graphics), one PCIe 3.0 x2 slot, and three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots from the chipset. Connectivity on the rear panel includes one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one PS/2 port, one RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet jack (Realtek GbE), one HDMI 2.1 port (up to 4096x2160 @ 60 Hz), one DVI-D port (up to 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz), and three audio jacks. A Q-Flash Plus button enables BIOS updates without a CPU or memory installed. Onboard audio is handled by a Realtek ALC887 codec delivering High Definition Audio across 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel configurations. Lighting is managed via Gigabyte RGB Fusion 2.0, supported by two addressable LED headers and two standard RGB LED headers. Fan control covers one CPU fan header, one water-cooling fan header, and three system fan headers, with hardware monitoring for voltages, temperatures, and fan speeds. The board ships with a 256 Mbit AMI UEFI BIOS and Gigabyte's APP Center software suite, including EasyTune, Game Boost, Fast Boot, Smart Backup, and System Information Viewer. AMD StoreMI technology is also supported for combining SSD speed with HDD capacity in a single logical drive.
