Overview
The Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X is an ATX-form-factor motherboard built around the Intel Z490 Express Chipset, designed to support 10th Generation Intel Core processors — including Core i9, Core i7, Core i5, Core i3, Pentium, and Celeron — in the LGA1200 socket. At 30.5 cm × 23.0 cm, it fits standard ATX chassis and provides a well-rounded feature set for gaming and productivity builds alike. Memory headroom is a standout capability. Four DDR4 DIMM slots support up to 128 GB of system memory (32 GB per DIMM), running in dual-channel configuration. With an XMP-capable kit and Core i9 or i7 processor installed, memory can be pushed to DDR4 4600 MHz (O.C.). Core i5, i3, Pentium, and Celeron processors support up to DDR4 2666 MHz natively. Storage options are flexible and fast. Two M.2 Socket 3 connectors (M key) accommodate both PCIe x4/x2 and SATA SSDs: one slot supports lengths up to 22110 mm and includes a thermal guard, while the second supports up to 2280 mm. Six SATA 6 Gb/s ports round out storage, with RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 support. Intel Optane Memory is also supported. Connectivity is handled by an Intel Gigabit Ethernet LAN chip with cFosSpeed software included. On the USB front, the rear I/O panel delivers one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port (10 Gbps), five USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and two USB 2.0 ports, with additional headers for internal expansion. Thunderbolt 3 add-in card support is available via two onboard AIC connectors. Audio is driven by the Realtek ALC1200 codec, delivering High Definition Audio in 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel configurations with S/PDIF Out. The board carries an onboard HDMI 1.4 output capable of 4096×2160 at 30 Hz for systems using Intel integrated graphics. RGB Fusion 2.0 controls both the two addressable LED strip headers and two standard RGB LED strip headers on board. Smart Fan 5 manages the CPU fan header and four system fan headers using multiple temperature sensors and a hybrid FAN STOP function. Q-Flash Plus allows BIOS updates without installing a CPU, memory, or GPU — useful during initial builds or recovery scenarios. The AMI UEFI BIOS is stored on a 256 Mbit flash chip.
