Overview
The Gigabyte Z490 UD AC is an ATX-form-factor motherboard built around the Intel Z490 Express Chipset and the LGA1200 socket, designed to support 10th Generation Intel Core processors — including Core i9, i7, i5, i3, Pentium, and Celeron variants. Its full ATX footprint measures 30.5 cm × 24.4 cm, fitting standard mid-tower and full-tower cases. Memory flexibility is a strong suit of this board. Four DDR4 DIMM slots support dual-channel operation with a maximum capacity of 128 GB (32 GB per module). With Core i9 or i7 processors installed, DDR4 speeds reach up to 4500 MHz via overclocking; Core i5 and i3 platforms run at standard DDR4 speeds up to 2666 MHz. XMP memory profiles are also supported. Storage options are generous. Two M.2 Socket 3 (M-key) connectors handle NVMe SSDs via PCIe Gen 3 x4; the first slot additionally accepts SATA-protocol M.2 drives. Six SATA 6 Gb/s ports and RAID 0/1/5/10 support round out local storage. Intel Optane Memory is also ready to use. Connectivity is handled by Intel Wi-Fi AC 9462, delivering 802.11a/b/g/n/ac dual-band (2.4/5 GHz) wireless with up to 433 Mbps data rate and Bluetooth 5 via the CNVi interface. Wired networking uses a Realtek GbE LAN chip at up to 1000 Mbps, paired with the Realtek 8118 Gaming LAN Bandwidth Control Utility for traffic prioritisation. The rear I/O panel includes one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port (10 Gbps), five USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port (HDMI 1.4, up to 4096×2160 @ 30 Hz via integrated graphics), one RJ-45, two SMA antenna connectors, three audio jacks, and a PS/2 keyboard/mouse port. The Realtek ALC887 codec powers High Definition Audio with up to 7.1-channel output and S/PDIF out. Expansion slots comprise one PCIe 3.0 x16 (running at x16), one PCIe 3.0 x16 (running at x4), and three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. AMD CrossFire multi-GPU configurations are supported. Internal headers include two addressable LED (ARGB) headers and two standard RGB LED headers for use with Gigabyte RGB Fusion 2.0. Smart Fan 5 provides hybrid fan control across one CPU fan header and four system fan headers, with FAN STOP capability. The Q-Flash Plus feature enables BIOS updates without a CPU, memory, or GPU installed — helpful during platform upgrades. The BIOS uses a licensed AMI UEFI implementation stored on a 256 Mbit flash chip. Two Thunderbolt add-in-card connectors and a TPM header (for GC-TPM2.0 SPI modules) add further versatility.
