Overview
The GIGABYTE Z890M Gaming X DDR5 is a Micro ATX motherboard built on the Intel Z890 Express Chipset, designed for Intel Core Ultra processors installed in the LGA1851 socket. Its compact 24.4 cm x 24.4 cm footprint makes it an efficient choice for small-to-mid form factor gaming and workstation builds without compromising on connectivity or feature depth. Memory capability is a headline strength. Four DDR5 DIMM slots support dual-channel operation with up to 256 GB total capacity (64 GB per module), and speeds reaching DDR5-9066 MT/s under XMP or manual overclocking profiles. CUDIMM modules are also supported, alongside ECC Un-buffered DIMMs operating in non-ECC mode for added flexibility. Storage options are comprehensive. A CPU-connected M.2 slot (M2A_CPU) supports PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe drives in 2280 and 2580 lengths, offering the highest sequential bandwidth available on the platform. Two additional chipset-connected M.2 slots run at PCIe 4.0 x4, with the larger M2N_SB accepting drives up to 22110 mm. Four SATA 6 Gb/s ports round out the storage interface, and both NVMe and SATA arrays support RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 configurations. Expansion is handled by a full-speed PCIe 5.0 x16 slot from the CPU for graphics or NVMe add-in cards, and a secondary PCIe 4.0 x16 physical slot (electrically x4) from the chipset. Two Thunderbolt add-in card connectors extend high-speed peripheral options further. Connectivity on the rear I/O includes three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI 2.1 output (up to 4096×2160 @ 60 Hz), two DisplayPort 2.1 outputs (up to 4096×2304 @ 60 Hz), and a Realtek 2.5GbE RJ-45 LAN port. Audio is delivered through a Realtek HD Audio CODEC supporting up to 7.1-channel output with an onboard noise guard that physically isolates analog audio circuitry from digital interference on the PCB. Onboard RGB headers include two addressable Gen2 ARGB headers and one standard RGB header, with Smart Fan 6 providing granular thermal and fan-speed control including water-cooling pump headers. The BIOS is AMI UEFI-based with a 256 Mbit flash chip, supporting Q-Flash for easy firmware updates and GIGABYTE Control Center (GCC) software for system monitoring and tuning. The board also features an RL-ILM (Reduced Load Independent Loading Mechanism) that reduces CPU socket mechanical stress and is reported by GIGABYTE to improve thermal contact by up to 4°C. Windows 11 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit are officially supported.
