Overview
The MSI B360M Mortar is a Micro-ATX form factor motherboard built on Intel's B360 chipset, designed for 8th and 9th generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors using the LGA1151 socket. It is a compact yet feature-rich platform suited to gaming builds and space-conscious desktop configurations where reliability and connectivity are priorities. Memory support extends to four DDR4 slots capable of holding up to 64GB total across a dual-channel architecture. Supported speeds include 2133MHz, 2400MHz, and 2666MHz, with compatibility for Intel Extreme Memory Profile (XMP). The board accepts non-ECC UDIMM modules, keeping mainstream upgrade paths straightforward. Storage options are generous for a board of this class. Four SATA 6Gb/s ports serve traditional drives, while two Key-M M.2 slots provide high-speed NVMe connectivity. The first M.2 slot supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s across 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 form factors. The second supports PCIe 3.0 x4 with 2242, 2260, and 2280 devices, and is also Intel Optane Memory Ready. Note that the SATA2 port is unavailable when a SATA M.2 SSD occupies M2_1, and the M2_2 slot is unavailable when a PCIe device occupies the PCI_E4 slot. Expansion is handled by two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots operating in x16 or x4 modes, plus two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. Two-way AMD CrossFire multi-GPU configurations are supported via the reinforced Steel Armor PCIe slot. USB connectivity is extensive: three USB 3.1 Gen2 (10Gbps) ports are available — one Type-A and one Type-C on the rear panel, plus one internal Type-C header. Two additional USB 3.1 Gen1 ports are available via internal header, and six USB 2.0 ports round out the complement. Networking is handled by the Intel I219-V Gigabit LAN controller. Onboard display outputs include DVI-D (up to 1920×1200 at 60Hz), DisplayPort (up to 4096×2304 at 60Hz), and HDMI (up to 4096×2160 at 30Hz); display output is not available when using an "F"-suffix processor. Audio is driven by dual Realtek ALC892 codecs delivering 7.1-channel HD audio with optical S/PDIF output. Fan control is addressed by one 4-pin CPU fan header and three 4-pin system fan headers.
