The Noctua NH-D12L chromax.black is a compact dual-tower CPU air cooler designed for builders who need strong thermal performance within tight height constraints. Standing just 145mm tall — compared to 158mm for standard 120mm Noctua coolers — it opens up compatibility with a wider range of tower cases, select 4U rackmount enclosures, and some larger Small Form Factor and Mini-ITX chassis where taller units simply will not fit. The cooler ships with the Noctua NF-A12x25r PWM chromax.black fan, a round-frame 120mm unit using Noctua's SSO2 bearing. It spins up to 2000 RPM (±10%) for maximum airflow of 102.1 m³/h, producing up to 22.6 dB(A) of acoustic noise — figures that keep the system notably quiet under load. The included NA-RC14 Low-Noise Adaptor caps fan speed at 1700 RPM (±10%), dropping airflow to 84.5 m³/h and noise to 18.8 dB(A) for even quieter day-to-day use. PWM control via the motherboard allows automatic speed ramping: the fan idles as low as 450 RPM at 20% PWM duty. The heatsink body is constructed from a copper base with copper heat-pipes, aluminium cooling fins, soldered joints, and nickel plating — all finished in an all-black coating to complement chromax.black and all-dark builds. The asymmetric tower design means the cooler does not overhang RAM slots in its standard orientation on Intel LGA1851, LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, and LGA1150 platforms, as well as AMD AM5 and AM4 motherboards. This ensures full clearance for tall heat-spreader DIMMs and RGB memory kits without repositioning. Socket compatibility extends to older platforms including LGA2066, LGA2011, LGA1366, and LGA775 via optional NM-i20xx and NM-I3 mounting kits, available free of charge from Noctua.
