The HBC designation stands for High Base Convexity — a specialized base geometry engineered to achieve optimal thermal contact on Intel LGA1700 processors, which can develop a concave lid profile under Independent Loading Mechanism (ILM) pressure. This variant is especially relevant if you are running a 12th, 13th, or 14th generation Intel Core processor without aftermarket contact frames or washers, or if your CPU lid has been permanently deformed through long-term use. At the heart of the NH-D15 G2 HBC are eight heatpipes — two more than the original NH-D15 — providing meaningfully greater thermal capacity at extreme heat loads of 250W and above. The updated asymmetrical fin-stacks feature a tighter 1.6mm fin spacing compared to the original's 1.9mm pitch, accommodating 26 additional fins and increasing total fin surface area by 20%. The front fin-stack has also been narrowed by 5mm to improve airflow balance across both fans, and overall heatsink depth is reduced by 9mm versus the first generation despite housing more fins — the result of both the denser spacing and the slightly reduced inter-stack gap.
