The Noctua NH-U12S Chromax Black is the all-black variant of Noctua's slim single-tower CPU cooler, combining a black-coated aluminium fin stack with a black-sleeved NF-F12 PWM fan for a stealth aesthetic that suits all-black and mixed-colour builds alike. The cooler's 45 mm fin depth keeps the heatsink clear of RAM slots even when a second fan is added in push/pull, giving unobstructed access to memory modules on all supported Intel and AMD platforms. At the core of the design is Noctua's NF-F12 PWM 120 mm fan, which uses a second-generation Self-Stabilising Oil-Pressure (SSO2) bearing and Focused Flow aerodynamics to deliver high static pressure with low acoustic output. Operating under PWM motherboard control, the fan can spin anywhere from 300 RPM up to its 1,500 RPM maximum, producing up to 93.4 m³/h of airflow at a peak noise level of 22.4 dB(A). The included Low-Noise Adaptor (LNA) caps speed at 1,200 RPM, trimming noise further to 18.6 dB(A) and airflow to 74.3 m³/h — a useful option for silent-PC builds or open benches where acoustics matter most. The fins are soldered — not press-fitted — to the copper heatpipes, ensuring the thermal interface remains stable across years of heating and cooling cycles. The base and heatpipes are copper; fins are aluminium with nickel plating, keeping corrosion at bay. Installation uses Noctua's SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting kit, which provides consistent, calibrated contact pressure across Intel LGA2066, LGA2011-0/3 (Square ILM), LGA1200, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1151, and LGA1150 sockets, as well as AMD AM4, AM3(+), AM2(+), FM2(+), and FM1. Noctua's acclaimed NT-H1 thermal compound is supplied in the box, eliminating the need for a separate TIM purchase at installation. For users who want push/pull cooling, the package includes a second set of anti-vibration pads and fan clips that offset the rear fan by 5 mm to further reduce resonance.
