Overview
The Noctua NH-U12S TR4-SP3 is a purpose-built 120mm single tower CPU air cooler engineered specifically for AMD's sTRX4, sWRX8, TR4, and SP3 socket platforms, covering Ryzen Threadripper and EPYC processors. Unlike the standard NH-U12S, this TR4-SP3 variant features an enlarged copper contact base measuring 70 x 56 mm — more than double the contact area of the standard model — designed to maximise heat transfer across the large integrated heat spreaders found on Threadripper and EPYC CPUs. At the heart of the cooler are five copper heatpipes running through an aluminium fin array, with all joints soldered and the base nickel-plated for durability and corrosion resistance. The cooler measures 158 mm tall and 125 mm wide (without fan), making it compatible with most modern mid-tower and full-tower cases, while its slim profile helps maintain clearance from the top PCIe slot on the majority of motherboards. Included is a Noctua NF-F12 PWM 120mm fan featuring Noctua's Focused Flow frame and SSO2 self-stabilising oil-pressure bearing. The fan spins between 300 and 1500 RPM via PWM control, delivering up to 93.4 m³/h of airflow at a maximum noise level of just 22.4 dB(A). The bundled Low-Noise Adaptor (LNA) caps the fan at 1200 RPM, reducing airflow to 74.3 m³/h and acoustical output to 18.6 dB(A) for near-silent operation. The cooler also ships with fan clips and additional anti-vibration pads to accommodate an optional second NF-F12 fan in a push/pull configuration for improved thermal performance. Mounting is handled by Noctua's SecuFirm2 system, custom-designed for the sTRX4/TR4/SP3 socket. Installation involves four spring-loaded screws, and the mount offers 3 mm or 6 mm offset positions toward the motherboard's upper edge to improve clearance over the top PCIe slot in multi-GPU configurations. Noctua's NT-H1 professional-grade thermal compound is included in the box.
