The Thermaltake ToughAir TRX40 is a single-tower CPU air cooler engineered specifically for AMD Ryzen Threadripper platforms. Its extended copper base is sized to provide full contact across the large integrated heat spreaders found on Threadripper processors, allowing efficient transfer of heat away from the die and into the heatsink stack. Six copper heat pipes — four at 6 mm diameter and two at 8 mm diameter — run in a U-shape configuration through the aluminium fin array. This combination of pipe gauges is designed to handle sustained high thermal loads, with Thermaltake rating the cooler for up to 280 W TDP. The fins themselves feature an asymmetric layout intended to smooth airflow, reduce turbulence, and improve heat dispersion across the full fin surface. A single 140 mm TOUGHFAN 14-derived fan is mounted to the heatsink and operates via 4-pin PWM control. Fan speed ranges from 500 to 2000 RPM under standard PWM operation, or 400 to 1400 RPM when connected through the included Low Noise Cable (L.N.C). At full speed the fan delivers up to 119.1 CFM of airflow and 3.54 mm-H2O of static pressure; with L.N.C those figures reduce to 83.29 CFM and 2.1 mm-H2O. Noise output is rated at 34.5 dB-A at maximum speed and 26.4 dB-A with L.N.C active. The fan is rated for 40,000 hours of operational life.
