Overview
The ASUS Prime Z890M-PLUS WIFI-CSM is a Micro-ATX motherboard built around the Intel Z890 chipset, designed to support Intel Core Ultra Processors (Series 2) in the LGA1851 socket. It is a strong foundation for compact yet capable builds that demand modern connectivity, high-speed storage, and robust memory support without the footprint of a full-size ATX board. Memory support is a highlight: four DDR5 DIMM slots accommodate up to 192GB of non-ECC unbuffered or CUDIMM memory, with overclocked speeds reaching DDR5-8666+ MT/s when using ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile III (AEMP III). Intel XMP is also supported. The DIMM Fit BIOS feature analyzes installed modules to optimize compatibility and stability. Storage options are comprehensive. Three M.2 Key-M slots (all type 2280) are provided: the first runs at PCIe 5.0 x4 for up to 128 Gbps throughput, while the second and third operate at PCIe 4.0 x4 for up to 64 Gbps each. Six SATA 6Gb/s ports offer additional drive capacity, and Intel Rapid Storage Technology enables RAID configurations across PCIe and SATA drives. Expansion slots include one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot sourced from the CPU and additional PCIe 4.0 slots from the Z890 chipset for multi-device flexibility. Wireless connectivity is handled by a 2x2 Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) module supporting 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands with up to 2.9 Gbps transfer rates, plus Bluetooth 5.4. Wired networking uses a Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet controller. The rear I/O panel delivers 8 USB ports — including a USB 20Gbps Type-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode, a USB 10Gbps Type-A, four USB 5Gbps Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports. Video output options include DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 4K@60Hz) and HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K@60Hz), with the rear USB-C also supporting DisplayPort at up to 4K@120Hz for integrated graphics use. Audio is handled by a Realtek HD codec supporting 7.1 surround sound output at up to 24-bit/192 kHz, with audio shielding and dedicated PCB layers. ASUS 5X Protection III safeguards include DIGI+ VRM with DrMOS, LANGuard, overvoltage protection, SafeSlot reinforcement and a stainless-steel back I/O panel. The board ships with BIOS FlashBack for CPU-free firmware updates, Aura Sync RGB support (1x RGB header, 3x Addressable Gen 2 headers) and a pre-mounted I/O shield for easier assembly.
