Overview
The ASRock Z790 Taichi Carrara is an EATX enthusiast motherboard built on the Intel Z790 chipset, designed to support 12th, 13th, and 14th Generation Intel Core processors on the LGA1700 socket. Taking aesthetic inspiration from the natural white veining of Carrara marble, it pairs a distinctive white visual identity with a feature set aimed at overclockers, content creators, and high-performance PC builders. At the heart of its power delivery is a 24+1+2 phase VRM configuration using 105A Smart Power Stage (SPS) Dr.MOS components, paired with composite VRM heatsinks, XXL aluminium heatsinks, a heat pipe, and active cooling fans for sustained thermal management. The eight-layer PCB further contributes to signal integrity and thermal stability under demanding workloads. For memory, the board provides four DDR5 DIMM slots supporting dual-channel non-ECC unbuffered memory up to 256 GB, with native speeds starting at 4800 MHz (1DPC 1R) and overclocked profiles reaching 7400+ MHz via Intel XMP 3.0. AMD EXPO profiles are also supported for compatible modules. Storage connectivity is equally capable: a PCIe Gen 5 x4 Blazing M.2 slot (M2_1) delivers up to 128 Gb/s bandwidth, accompanied by four additional PCIe Gen 4 x4 Hyper M.2 slots and eight SATA3 6 Gb/s ports. Two full-length PCIe 5.0 x16 slots serve discrete graphics, with support for x16 or x8/x8 configurations. Networking is handled by a Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet controller alongside an Intel I219V Gigabit LAN port, plus an Intel-based Killer AX1675 Wi-Fi 6E module (802.11ax, 2x2 160 MHz, 6 GHz band) with Bluetooth 5.3. Killer DoubleShot Pro allows simultaneous use of wired and wireless for traffic prioritisation. Connectivity on the rear panel includes two USB4 Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports (40 Gb/s), two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports (10 Gb/s), six USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K 60 Hz), and one optical S/PDIF output. A front-panel USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C header supports up to 20 Gb/s data transfer and 60 W fast charging (20 V/3 A). Audio is delivered by a Realtek ALC4082 codec paired with an ESS SABRE9218 DAC (130 dB SNR) for the front panel outputs, WIMA audio capacitors, and dedicated PCB layers for left/right channel separation. Lighting is managed through ASRock Polychrome SYNC with one RGB header and three addressable RGB headers on board. The included 12 cm Carrara Edition cooling fan (800–2500 RPM, 76.21 CFM, dual-ball bearing) extends the white marble aesthetic inside the chassis.
