Overview
The ASRock Z890 Lightning WiFi is an ATX form-factor motherboard built around the Intel Z890 chipset, designed to support Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors in the LGA1851 socket. It delivers a platform that covers high-performance gaming, content creation, and productivity workloads through a combination of modern connectivity standards and robust power delivery. Power delivery centres on an 18+1+1+1+1 power phase design using Smart Power Stage (SPS) technology rated at 80A per phase for VCore, GT, and SA rails. ASRock's Hi-Density Power Connectors — a 24-pin ATX and dual 8-pin 12V connectors — are engineered to handle the higher current demands of CPU overclocking while reducing thermal stress. Complementing this, the board uses 2oz copper inner PCB layers for improved signal integrity and thermal management, alongside 20K-rated Black capacitors with 1000µF capacitance for stable, low-ripple power output. Memory support spans four DDR5 DIMM slots in dual-channel configuration, accommodating non-ECC unbuffered memory up to 9466MHz (OC) and CUDIMM modules, with a maximum installed capacity of 256GB. Intel XMP 3.0 profiles are supported, and ASRock's Memory OC Shield provides EMI reduction to stabilise high-frequency overclocking sessions. Storage is handled by four M.2 sockets: one PCIe Gen5 x4 Blazing M.2 delivering up to 128GB/s, and three PCIe Gen4 x4 Hyper M.2 sockets offering up to 64GB/s each. Four SATA3 6Gb/s ports round out the storage options, with RAID 0/1/5/10 support across both SATA and NVMe devices. Connectivity includes a Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit LAN controller and an 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) 2×2 module covering 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands with up to 320MHz channel bandwidth and MU-MIMO, paired with Bluetooth 5.4. The rear panel carries two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports (40Gb/s), two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports (10Gb/s), four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI 2.1 output (4K/120Hz), and an optical S/PDIF output. A front-panel USB 3.2 Gen2×2 Type-C header (20Gb/s) is also included. Audio is handled by a Realtek ALC1220 codec delivering 7.1-channel HD audio with impedance sensing, individual PCB layers per channel, 15µ gold audio connectors, and Nahimic Audio software support.
