Overview
The ASUS Prime Z790-P CSM is an ATX form factor motherboard built on the Intel Z790 chipset, designed for Intel LGA1700 socket processors including 12th Gen (Alder Lake) and 13th Gen (Raptor Lake) Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron families. It measures 12 x 9.2 inches (30.5 x 23.4 cm) and is a capable platform for system builders and IT-managed environments alike, thanks to its ASUS Control Center Express (CSM) software for real-time monitoring and fleet management. Power delivery is handled by a 14+1 DrMOS power stage design rated at 50 amperes per stage, supported by a 6-layer PCB, ProCool connectors, alloy chokes, and durable capacitors. Large VRM heatsinks with thermal pads help dissipate heat from the power delivery components, while a flexible M.2 heatsink is available for either the M.2_1 or M.2_3 slot to prevent thermal throttling during sustained storage transfers. Memory support spans four DIMM slots accommodating up to 128 GB of DDR5 non-ECC unbuffered memory in dual-channel configuration. Supported speeds range from DDR5-4800 up to DDR5-7200+, with compatibility for Intel XMP profiles and ASUS AEMP II (Enhanced Memory Profile II) for PMIC-restricted modules, as well as OptiMem II for signal integrity optimization. Storage flexibility comes via three PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots (Key M) and four SATA 6 Gb/s ports. The primary PCIe 5.0 x16 slot delivers the highest bandwidth for discrete graphics cards, complemented by three additional PCIe 4.0 x16 slots (operating at x4 mode) and one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot from the chipset. Connectivity at the rear panel includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C port (up to 20 Gbps), one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, four USB 2.0 Type-A ports, DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), HDMI 2.1 (4K@60Hz), Realtek 2.5 Gb Ethernet, three audio jacks, and a PS/2 combo port. A Thunderbolt (USB4) header onboard supports up to 40 Gbps bi-directional speeds with an optional ASUS add-on card. Wi-Fi capability is available via a vertical M.2 Key-E slot on the rear panel (module sold separately). Audio is powered by a Realtek HD audio CODEC with 7.1 surround sound support (requires front-panel HD audio chassis), audio shielding, premium capacitors, and dedicated PCB layers, supporting up to 24-bit/192 kHz playback. Fan management is handled through Fan Xpert 4 with AI Cooling II across five fan/pump headers, configurable via UEFI BIOS or software. The BIOS is a 192 Mb Flash ROM (UEFI AMI) with EZ and Advanced modes, CrashFree BIOS 3, and EZ Flash 3 for easy updates.
