Overview
The GIGABYTE Z790 Gaming X DDR5 is an ATX-form-factor motherboard built on the Intel Z790 Express chipset, designed to support 12th and 13th Generation Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors via the LGA1700 socket. Its four DDR5 DIMM slots operate in dual-channel mode and accept memory speeds from DDR5-4800 up to DDR5-7600 (O.C.), with a maximum supported capacity of 128 GB (32 GB per DIMM). For graphics and expansion, the board provides a primary PCIe 5.0 x16 slot (CPU-direct) for the latest discrete graphics cards, complemented by a chipset-connected PCIe 4.0 x16 slot wired at x4 and a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot wired at x4, offering flexibility for capture cards, network adapters, and other add-in devices. Storage options are plentiful: four M.2 connectors (three CPU or chipset PCIe 4.0 x4, one supporting both SATA and PCIe 4.0 x4) accommodate drives up to 22110 in length, while six SATA 6 Gb/s ports provide traditional drive connectivity. RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 configurations are supported for both NVMe and SATA arrays. Rear I/O connectivity includes a USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps), two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and four USB 2.0 ports. Video output for integrated graphics is provided by one HDMI 2.0 port (up to 4096×2160 @ 60 Hz) and one DisplayPort (up to 4096×2304 @ 60 Hz). Networking is handled by a Realtek 2.5GbE LAN chip supporting 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, and 100 Mbps speeds. Audio is delivered by a Realtek codec supporting up to 7.1-channel output with optical S/PDIF Out. The board supports GIGABYTE's Q-Flash Plus feature for BIOS updates without a CPU or memory installed, and includes two Thunderbolt add-in card connectors, two addressable LED (ARGB) headers, two standard RGB headers, and comprehensive fan and water-cooling pump headers for system management via GIGABYTE Control Center software.
