The MSI PRO Z790-S WIFI is a full-size ATX motherboard (243.84 mm × 304.8 mm) built on Intel's Z790 chipset and designed for the LGA 1700 socket. It supports Intel Core 12th, 13th, and 14th Generation processors, as well as Pentium Gold and Celeron processors in the same socket family, making it a versatile platform for productivity, content creation, and gaming builds alike. Memory performance is a standout capability. Four DDR5 DIMM slots accept up to 192 GB of non-ECC, unbuffered DDR5 RAM. Base JEDEC speeds start at 4800 MHz and run through 5600 MHz, while XMP 3.0 profiles push single-rank configurations to 6600+ MHz. The board's 12+1+1 Duet Rail Power System with P-PAK MOSFETs and dual 8-pin CPU power connectors provides the stable delivery needed for overclocking headroom. Thermal management relies on an extended heatsink assembly with MOSFET thermal pads rated at 7 W/mK, supplementary choke thermal pads, and M.2 Shield Frozr covers over both M.2 slots. The 6-layer PCB uses 2 oz copper traces and server-grade substrate for signal integrity under sustained loads. Storage options include two M.2 slots — M.2_1 (CPU-direct, PCIe 4.0 x4, up to 110 mm) and M.2_2 (chipset, PCIe 4.0 x4 or SATA) — plus four SATA 6 Gb/s ports supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. The primary PCIe x16 slot runs at Gen 5.0 from the CPU, enabling next-generation GPU or add-in card bandwidth. Connectivity is comprehensive. Wired networking is handled by a Realtek RTL8125BG 2.5 Gbps controller, while wireless is provided by an Intel Wi-Fi 6E module (802.11ax, 2.4/5/6 GHz, 160 MHz, up to 2.4 Gbps) with Bluetooth 5.3.
