The Noctua NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U is a compact dual-tower CPU air cooler engineered specifically for AMD Threadripper (sTR5) and Epyc (SP6) workstations and server platforms. Designed with demanding professional environments in mind — audio and video production, content creation, engineering workstations, and noise-sensitive rack deployments — it delivers a balance of thermal performance and acoustic restraint that is rare at this form factor. At the core of the cooler's thermal design is an enlarged copper contact surface measuring 70×56mm, more than twice the size of Noctua's standard desktop base. This enlarged footprint is purpose-built to mate efficiently with the oversized integrated heat-spreaders (IHS) found on AMD's sTR5 and SP6 processors, maximising heat transfer from the CPU die across the copper base, through the heatpipes, and into the aluminium fin stack. Despite its dual-tower construction, the NH-D9 TR5-SP6 4U maintains a remarkably compact footprint of 95×95mm (centre fan only) and a total height of just 134mm — with fans installed, depth extends to 120mm. This slim profile ensures compatibility with most 4U rack-mount enclosures and preserves PCIe slot access on HEDT and server motherboards. Airflow runs parallel to the long axis of the sTR5/SP6 socket, making it ideal for chassis where exhaust fans are oriented in that direction. Cooling is handled by two NF-A9 HS-PWM 92mm fans in a push/pull configuration, each rated up to 2500 RPM. Both fans support 4-pin PWM for automatic motherboard-controlled speed adjustment, enabling near-silent operation at light loads and elevated airflow when thermals demand it. A supplied NA-YC1 PWM splitter cable allows both fans to be controlled from a single fan header. Installation uses Noctua's SecuFirm2 mounting system adapted for sTR5/SP6, requiring only four spring-loaded Allen key screws tightened with the included NM-SMT3 tool.
